Went to the Pate Swap Meet at the Texas Motor Speedway yesterday.

Didn't see but a few tractor parts, one Ford 8N, and some "obsolete" tires from Wallace Wade.

There was one fella who had about 3 hit-n-miss engines there, and he also had an unrestored John Deere "B" for sale. The tag didn't say what year the tractor was.

The "B" was popping away over there, so I just had to go take a look. He had it priced at $3,450.00

Just out of curiousity (I'm not as familiar with J.D. tractors)- was that price good, bad, or O.K.? Thanks in advance.

-Mike

Mike, what was the condition of the tractor? Was it a BN or BW or something rare like that? Was it restored or just original? What condition were the tires in? Questions like this are going to determine if it was priced reasonably or not. I agree with CLW, though. If it was just a plain old B and nothing really rare or fixed up nice, $3450 is pretty high - more like what you'd expect to give for a G in fair to decent condition, which would be three times the tractor. Just my two cents.

G-Man:

There didn't appear to be anything rare or special about this 'B', although I'm not up on the various models and options for John Deere.

The tractor looked to be in original, unrestored condition- but it wasn't in the greatest shape in the world. The tin on the front grille was rough. There appeared to be small coolant leak, as well.

Seemed to have original rear tires on it, weather-checked, but holding air.

Thanks for your replies. I thought it was a high price- but I don't know anything about J.D. values. One of these days I'm going to look into getting old J.D. to keep my other tractor ('49 Case SC) company.

Regards, -Mike

Mike, I live in the McKinney area and the B's I have seen here SELL in the $1200-$1700 range. I would think that one didn't sell. CLW
