Need assistance on the hook up of a '61 4010 dsl. Need to know what post is grounded and where to hook up starter at. The tractor has sat for a little while and the previous owner is no longer with us. I believe it has a generator, but not sure if it pos ground or neg ground. Thank you.

The 4010 should be a 24 volt system and should have two 12 volt batteries hooked in series. The batteries were installed with one on each side of the transmission. On the left hand battery the negative cable should go to the top terminal on the starter solenoid. A crossover cable will go from the positive cable on the LH battery to the negative post on the RH battery. The cable from the RH positive post goes to the terminal on the back side of the starter body. A wire with a 30 Amp fuse should be routed from the LH positive battery terminal to ground. This provides ground for the lights, dash lights and gauges and protection in case of any shorts in the system. I can e-mail a wiring diagram in case you need one.
