All at once the hydraulics quit, no power steering, no three point lift, no clutch, no breaks and no transmission, any ideas before the dreaded trip to the shop. The coupler at the frount of the tractor seems fine.

IF THE HEX SHAFT TWISTED N TWO YOU HAD BETTER SPLIT THE TRACTOR AND MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO PEICES IN BOTTOM. I JUST DID THIS FOR SAME REASON WITH OURS WITH ONLY 160 HOURS ON NEW UPDATED PUMP AND SHAFT. TURNS OUT DEERE SOLD US PUMP WITH ASOFT BUSHING IN IT. IT ATE OUT THE BUSHING GOT OFF CENTER AND TWISTED THE SHAFT IN TWO SINCE IT HAD BEEN OVER 90 DAYS THEY DID NOT STAND BEHIND IT. THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL UPDATES ON SUPPLY PUMP IN DIFF HOUSING BE SURE TO HOOK UP REMOTE GAGE AND CHECK LUBE PRESURE AND SYSTEM PRESURE HAVE FUN

Drew did the system fail all of a sudden with no warning? I would check the stroke control valve just as G-man said. Sometimes they get wear in them and they are good at finding debris also. There is also a hex shaft that drives the trans. pump. This shaft goes in the backof the crankshaft and runs through the pump and into a plug behind the toplink bracket on the rear of the tractor. I had a quad-range tractor to twist this shaft into right behind the crank. This reason for this is still somwhat unclear because the pump was not locked up and nothing was out of the ordinary when it was torn down. The twisted shaft was very difficult to remove (we broke the tractor into in 2 places to remove it).

I would start with a simple system drain and check the sump screen and filters. You might have had a brake failure that is causing the sump screen to become so covered with debris that the trans pump (which charges the main pump) can't even draw oil. My next step would be to check the stroke-control valve, if it sticks, it won't allow your pump to stroke and produce oil flow - this is probably what the other guy was referring to. It doesn't take much of a piece of debris to jam the stroke control.

G-MAN - I should clarify something

If you have lost all hydraulic function completely, first make sure the tractor has enough oil in it. I know this sounds stupid, but if you broke a line or something, you could have lost all your oil and not known it - I've seen it happen before. The fact that you don't have any trans either leads me to believe that your problem is going to be found somewhere in the charge circuit. You can lose hydraulics and still have trans function, but if you don't have either, your problem probably lies somewhere in the charge circuit - the trans pump provides the oil to operate the trans in a powershift or the permaclutch in a quad-range. Start at the beginning of the system and work forward - usually a problem like this can be a fairly simply fix - stuck priority valve, plugged screen, etc. Just my two cents.

Drew, Now that we know that your tractor is a Quad range and that the transmission functions as well as all hydraulic functions do not work, this points to a charge / system pressure problem (rear pump?). (Should have a blinking red light on dash?) The first thing to check would be system / clutch pressure at the clutch test port located on the left side of tractor on the transmission control valve where the clutch pedal control rod is connected to it. If wanting to do some quick and simple things you could check the transmission pump drive shaft as previously mentioned. Remove the center link bracket from the back of the tractor and remove the plug under it. Behind this plug is the end of the live hex drive shaft that drives the transmission pump. Have someone crank the engine to see if it is turning, after checking that remove it by pulling it out the back and inspect the condition of it. The hole length of it is hexagon except the end of it where the shaft is supported by the plug that you removed to gain access to it. You will have to grab the end of it with a pliers to get a hold of it to pull it from the back of the tractor. If drive shaft looks normal, then you have a pretty serious internal leak, could be a stuck valve or a hole in a transmission pump pipe among other things which I have seen all and others too. Someone with a few gauges could tell you what your problem was in a short order and then you would know which way to peruse your repair without going on a witch hunt. It is easy to check the pump drive shaft and eliminate that possibility right away or possibly uncover your problem as well. See what you learn Good Luck, Dave W.

Could not get the transmission pump drive shaft to come out, it does turn when cranking the tractor but we could only get it out a half inch, and we had a good set of vice grips on it and giggled, pulled, pryed while turning over the tractor a bit and its not coming. Local dealer is going to check the pressure for us but it looks like its going in to the shop. Thanks for your advice and thanks to everybody else for input.

We had the same problem with one of our 4430's. We repalced a lot of stuff inside the trans before figuring out that it was an external valve on the side of the trans that was sticking and causing all the problems you listed. Before you tear into it, make sure you check all your hyd. pressures to make sure you don't have the same problem.
