What liquid material is used in the electrolisis bath. I have an old rubbermaid stock tank I want to turn into an electrolisis bath to try it.

Farmuse:

The electrolyte is either Calcium Carbonate (Washing soda) or Sodium Hydroxide (Lye), your choice. I use lye because it strips the old oil, paint, and grease better, but it's more alkaline, or basic, and hence a little more harse on your skin.

Any plastic container should work. My thinking is to use a plastic stock tank for the next project, and use my engine hoist to support heavy parts like wheel centers in the tank. Even being able to dip half a part at a time should be a plus.

Farmuse:

I use one tablespoon of lye or washing soda per gallon of water. It's not critical at all. If I have a part that is so big that it creates too high a current draw, I might thin the mix. If I have a part the is really caked in paint, I might boost it up.

I use a 10 amp setting on my charger. The part will only draw what it can based on surface area of the electrode, surface area of the part, and the distance between the two.

I typically draw 4-8 amps depending on the situation.
