I went to my local JD dealer to get an engine oil filter for my H-part# AH812R and I was told they are no longer available. Anyone know where I can get one?

I always replace the rubber seal ring for the cover. I have seen too many tractors with crushed oilfilter cans or heads from overtightening to stop a leak. If they haven't been changed they get rock hard and have to be dug out with a pick.

Bman, that part number is for the really old brass screen filter used on the first model year H's. The idea was that you could wash this filter (really just a screen) and reuse it. After 1939 (serial 10000), Deere changed to a more conventional (disposable cartridge) filter element. If you really want that specific part, you may have to go to the folks who salvage H's, such as Sharp's or C. B. Lindstrom. Otherwise, you might be better off by converting your oil filter housing internals to the later style so you can use the disposable filter elements, which are still readily available from Deere. Incidentally, regarding the disposable filter, I tried our local O'Reilly's for one--they could get one the next day for about $7.50 or so. Being desperate, I went across the highway to the Deere dealer, who charged me about $5.50. Go figure....

For serial numbers 10,000 and up NAPA has one. NAPA part number 1148.

Hope this helps.
