Started my "B" up this morning and she doesn't want to fire on right side cylinder. New points, rotor and cap. Plug is wet with fuel.

Refresh my memory on what are the best plugs for my 1950 "B".

Thanks in advance

Dick

Got Autolite 386 in my B. 388 are good too. Just like the other post stated. Are you running Champions? I was and had to get new plugs every 6 months. I work it. Plowing, cultivating, cornbinding, and threshing.

Dear Popper, I prefer Autolites, and I use 388 in styled tractors, 3077 in unstyled. As you may or may not know, the one barrel JD's at idle, fire stronger on the left than the right side anyway, but I would try swapping the plugs side to side for the heck of it to see if perhaps that right side plug may be bad. Regardless if mag or distributor, its the same set of points and condensor and coil that fire both plugs, so if one side has a stronger spark than the other, look at things like plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor. Once some plugs have been wet gas fouled, it seems cleanign still doesnt make them ever right again. I assume you have approximate equal compression on both sides??? Good Luck Ol John T in Indiana

John T,

Thanks for your post. The problem just started this morning and the first thing I did was pull the right side plug to see if it was wet. It was wet so I blew it out with air and swapped sides with the plug only to find the problem on the other side now. I picked up some new plugs and she runs good again.

Thanks to all that posted for me. This site is great.

Dick

Same problem on my 41 B, same fix. The plugs looked to be sparking when I removed them and turned the flywheel. But the tractor would only fire on the right cyl. A new set of plugs from the dealer and it runs better than ever. I guess the ceramic must have been bad. Prior to that I had changed points, wires, condensor, rotor and cap, and carbureator. Good web site.

Popper, I use the Autolite 3116 in my 51 B, they seem to work well for tractor pulls & parades.
