My 1947 Long-hood B doesn't run very well. When the engine warms up it doesn't have any power. It ran good cold but doesn't have much power then either. I put a mag on to try it but that didn't help any. It has OK blue spark. Could my spark plugs be the problem? Now, it will fire once on the #2 cylinder and then not fire anymore. It is timed right. The carbeurator was rebuilt, but I'm not sure how well. The air intake elbow had some gas in it. It will not run with the air intake elbow disconnected either. I'm pretty sure it's either the spark plugs or the carbeurator. What do you think? Thanks for your help,
Ryan

Ryan, definitely start with a new set of spark plugs just to rule that out.
~If it doesn't run with the air cleaner elbow removed, that tells me you probably still have a carb problem. [try running it with the choke about 1/2 way on ], or [different choke settings], if that makes a difference you still have a plugged carb passage. ~Does changing the idle & load needle settings make it run different? If not you probably have carb problems. Will it run with the load needle removed? If so you probably have carb problems. ~Were the carb passage brass screws removed & stiff wire or small drill bits run through the passages? If not it probably needs the carb re-done & the internal passages cleaned with wire or small bits.
~If you suspect the carb & want to do it yourself, post back or E-Mail me & I will send you a diagram of the passages that need cleaning.....

Clooney,
Changing the carb settings does make a difference in how it runs but I never can get them set right. I don't know if it will run with the needle out or not I will check tomorrow night. I don't know if the carb passages were cleaned or not I didn't rebuild it. Ryan

The spark plugs were the problem. The tractor runs too rich and then fouls the spark plugs. Once it warms up then it won't run very well or at all. Do I just need to adjust the idle needle. The person that rebuilt it told me that the idle needle was worn could that be a problem?

Ryan, yes a carb adjustment could be the problem.
~Warm the engine, then with the engine idling, turn the idle needle in until the idle gets rough then slowly back the needle out until the idle just smoothes out & with no exhaust smoke.
~For the load needle adjustment you should put a belt load on the tractor at wide open throttle , or climb a steep hill. With the tractor under load, turn the load needle in until the engine mis-fires then slowly back it out until it pulls good & takes the throttle good. (If doing this climbing a hill, STOP the tractor to make the adjustment then put it back under load to test it) .
~A worn idle needle can make carb adjustment difficult, & if worn with a ring in the needle tip, should be replaced..... ...
