Greetings,

I can not figure a way to drain the oil from the cranking engine...I have a crankcase full of fuel and need to drain it????

I would like to know the allowable side thrust in the crankshaft also.

Thanks.....Stan

Stan:

Good news/bad news. You can only drain the oil from the pony into the main engine crankcase, so if the oil in the diesel is good, you'd have to drain it and save it, then drain the oil from the pony.

If it's time for an oil change in both engines, then it works out fine.

The book endplay on the crank is .005"-.010" hot. However, several folks who rebuild these engines for a living told me that .010-.012" is a better range. That's where I set my 70D after overhaul. Also, torque on the flywheel bolts is 208 ft-lb, but they told me thay have never seen a flywheel too tight. I have mine torqued to 350 ft-lb on 3/4" fine thread bolts with tall nuts and hardened washers under the nuts.

Hope this is helpful.

JD parts, service & operators manuals, not a IT abbreviation would be helpful to maintain this tractor. As a few examples; valve lash, capacities, injector timing, throttle, pto, clutch adjustment & even the location of hidden oil drains for the various drives are needed. A value from your dealer or 1-800-522-7448.
