...that mid to late 1970's, maybe early 80's garden tractor that looked like a little 4630? It had a 3 cyl diesel engine, a mid mounted mower deck, powersteering, hydraulics, and a pto shaft (I think)

I want to say the model was a 430, but I can't remember exactly and if I search for the 430, all I find is the 2 banger 430.

Thanks

Kansas_Farmer, I have a JD 430 garden tractor, as a matter of fact I have just come in from mowing with it today. I bought it new in 84 (I think was) and it has been a great machine. It is the most satisfying purchase I have ever made. They have a 20 or 22 horse Yanmar 3 cylinder diesel engine, power steering, hydro drive, hydro lift, 1000 rpm mid and rear pto, Cat 0 3 pt hitch, 2 remote hyd. outlets, electric pto clutch , 60" deck and a locking rear end. I have the tires full of fluid (all 4)and it is like a billy goat, it'll go anywhere. Mine looks and runs like new (I waxed it the other night:) I have pictures I can send you as I don't know how to post them on this board.

John Deere Service Publications catalog show several manuals available for the 430. It list the Yammar engine. Russ

The 430 was produced by John Deere Horicon Works from 1984 to 1991. I'm just going by the pictures on EPC, but it looks like a fairly large and robust lawn and garden tractor - probably a predecessor to the current 400 series (and the new X series). It does have a 3 cylinder diesel engine. I'm not sure of the engine maker, but I would presume it to be a Yanmar or something similar.

I think I know which one you are talking about, and I'm sure it was a 430. It was kind of unique looking with it's set back steering axle. I see them on the dealer's lot from time to time.HJ

Kansas Farmer, I once had a 3 cylinder diesel, it was an 820-- think they made a 830 also in the 3 cyl.
