Ballpark values on a 630

Hey guys, I know how tough these value questions can be, but I'm trying to help out a customer. He has a 630 he's wanting to sell at auction, and is interested in knowing an approximate value. Here's the story - 630 gas, rollomatic, good tires front and rear, runs excellent, around 4000 original hours, paint bad - but tin work in decent shape, 3 pt. hitch, 45 loader - decent shape, carb rebuilt, new radiator core, power steering pump rebuilt (I did the work here in the shop last year), new muffler, new seat cushion, basically just a good sound working tractor. The kicker of this whole deal is that the guy bought it new - he's in his 80s and moving off the farm. It has a small power steering leak that he wants fixed before he sells it, so it's here in the shop now. He already sold his B and 3020 (both of which he bought new also) and his real sweet 4440. He wanted to know how much I thought it would be worth. I told him I didn't know for sure, but he would be crazy to take anything less than $3000 (although I'm sure it's worth a lot more), and he thought that sounded pretty good. The bottom line is I would write him a check for whatever he wanted if I had the time and money, I fell in love with it when I was working on it last year, and I don't want to see him get screwed on the deal. I'm almost tempted to talk to him and see if I can work out some kind of deal with him, but I just don't know if I need another tractor right now. That's funny, since when has need factored into these kind of deals? LOL! Anyway, I was just curious if anyone had seen anything similar sell recently and what it brought.

How is he going to get screwed at auction?
It will bring all it's worth, and then some.

What it brings depends on who is at the sale. He wants to get it sold as he is moving into town and doesn't have a place to keep it. It seems to me that if it would bring $1000 or something like that, he would be getting screwed. I know the antique JD market keeps getting higher and higher, but every now and then you hear about someone getting an absolute steal at a sale somewhere. You mention that it will bring all it's worth and then some, but you don't mention a value, so what is your point in posting? The reason I posted was to be able to give the guy a ballpark figure, because he is a very nice old gentleman and has always treated me very well when I've been working on something in the shop or at his place. That is why I want to make sure he receives a fair price for it.

My point is if it's advertised it will bring
a good price,no one steals a 2 cylinder at an
auction,privately it happens.Who watched over
him when he sold the other tractors? All he
has to do is tell the auctioeer what he wants,
or you can leave a bid with the auctioneer. Why
does he even care if he's that old, just get rid
of it.Any 630 will bring 3000 on up,he probably
knows better than you do,probabaly asked 10 other
people already.

Excuse me for asking a question, Mike. I apparently don't have your vast expertise and knowledge about two-cylinders. Did you stop to think that maybe the reason he is asking about values is so that he could know what to tell the auctioneer? Man you are an idiot - I normally don't resort to name calling, but this is one situation where it is warranted. You have contributed nothing of value to this post, so why bother? And I hate to break it to you, but tractors can be "stolen" at auction. It all depends on the day and who is there. Suppose the two guys who are real interested in the tractor can't make it to the sale because they're farmers and are in the field that day, so some idiot ends up buying it for next to nothing. I've seen similar situations happen before. Once again, I am so sorry to have offended you with my ridiculous post - I was hoping to get something I could work with - not smart a$$ comments from people like you. Thanks to everybody that responded in an adult manner.

I bought a similar 630 without the loader and paid $2900 which I still feel was a very good price. With the loader I would think $4500+ would still be an excellent deal for the buyer. Where is this machne located? I may be able to find him a buyer here in central Texas

G-MAN,
On page 2 under "AUCTION REPORT $$$" A 630 sold for $8600. Would like to know the story behind that. I think I would ask $4000 and come down some, but being one owner with 3-point and loader I think $4000 would be a good deal for buyer and seller.
