WORKING ON JD 60. NOTICED SOME PIECES OF METAL JUST BELOW THE AIR CLEANER CAP ON FRAME.
LOOKS LIKE MAYBE SOME BEARING MATERIAL, NO SURE.
I AM THINKING THAT IT IS FROM THE FAN SHAFT.WATER PUMP AND GENERATOR LOOK OK.
MY QUESTION IS CAN THE FANSHAFT BE REMOVED WITH OUT REMOVING GOVENER? IT DOES HAVE POWERSTEERING.
LOOKS LIKE AIR CLEANER, INLET TUBE TO CARB, BREATHER PIPE, WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED. JD MANUAL DOES SHOW ONE WITH POWERSTEERING PUMP. DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF ANY OTHER WAYS?
THANKS.

JD Jack:

Ralph's right, it might just be clutch material from those either of those two facings. I don't think you'd see any bearing material without the being a lot of noise up front (not to mention some p/s oil !)

I R&R'd the p/s pump on my 70D, and I'm not sure if you can get it out without at least pushing the radiator all the way forward. Popper Dick just took one off of his 620, so maybe he'll drop by to say how he accomplished it.

The pump connects to the front end of the fanshaft though a spline coupler, and you need to get forward clearance to allow it to slip apart.

Wish I could be more help.

If its like the my A, there is a clutch at the fan. One of the disks was about comletely disintegrated. Occassionally sounded like the fan was hitting the radiator. I'd call the JD # and get a service manual which will detail the removal. The entire fan shaft is spring loaded on the A. The gas tank came off and the gov and fan as a unit.
