Tonight I finally got to the point where I could hook up the tank, install new plugs, install distributor, etc.

Turned on the gas, hit the starter, and it cranked about 3 or 4 turns and took off like it had never been apart. Haven't fine tuned the timing, but the governor function was great. Pulled back the cranking/decompresison lever, and it turned the big engine just fine (which was great because I had rebuilt the clutch and transmission, too). Didn't try it on compression yet. This was just a short test run.

Tomorrow after a few other tasks, I should be able to break it in a bit at lower rpm's at first, motoring the diesel. I'll vary the speeds up and down, but it sounded fine and did not smoke. Except for the paint burning off the exhaust pipe !

IT FELT GREAT !!!

Walt and Dick:

I was just thinking it would be neat if I could have shared the audio of the event. As for video, I don't have a streaming video camera, and I think it would be a real memory hog for a site. MAybe you could rent one ? Could just make it a download for people who were interestd.

All the folks out there who have the know-how will have to step up and tell us all how to do it !

I've already decided that on the day the tractor is deemed "Finished", we're going to make a video of me installing the front chrome medallion, and I'm going to break a bottle of "cheap" champaign on the lower front pedestal.

Maybe I'll drink the wine first !
