I just purchased a 1953 John Deere model 40S tractor to restore. Can anyone tell me if there is any certain brand of spark plug that works best in them and what heat range. Someone told me that AC plugs work best in these old JD's is that true? Thanks for any response!

I goin with Fred on this one, Auto Lite 216's work great in my M. But it also depends on if you are going to use the tractor for work or play or both. On my working tractors i use Champion H-10C because the tractor stays at 220 degrees for long periods of time. And on my play tractors I use the 216's because I don't run the tractors for long periods of time and the water temp doesn't get that high. Hope this helps.

I am pleased with the performance of Autolite 216 plugs in my 1954 JD 40s.
