Well guys, I am working on a lil ole 50 MT and the electrical system is kickin my tail. The generator is good, checked out at the shop, new cutout on it. Positive ground setup, 6 volt, I put a wire on the feild terminal and to the frame, next I have a wire from the Arm terminal going to the cutout, the cutout to the ammeter, then from the ammeter to the battery, just like the gen shop told me too. When I hook up the cable to the battery it sparks, like a grounding out. I went ahead and cranked it, no charge, I put the fluke meter on, and it showed like 6.5 volts off the gen. I dont think that the cutout is working properly, I have polerized both gen and cutout, still no charge, the gen is putting out more cuz my test light is bright, go check it at the cutout, and it is not letting it through, seems like the cutout is working backwards, not letting it charge, but when you shut off the tractor, it leaks back thru to the gen, I ahve it set right acording to the instructions, for the positive conection, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gpower, I have no idea how you polarized the cut-out as there is nothing in there that can be polarized. What did you do to it?
~On the cut-out, do you have the (BAT) terminal hooked to the wire going to the ammeter? & the (GEN) or (ARM) terminal going to the (A) post on the generator.
~How did the directions say to hook the cut-out up for positive ground?
~Are you sure the battery is hooked positive ground?
~It kinda sounds like the cut-out is wired backwards or is defective.
~Remove the wire from the (ARM)/(GEN) terminal of the cut-out & with the tractor running, use a jumper & hook that wire to the (BAT) terminal on the cut-out, does it show a charge now? If so you have a defective cut-out or it is hooked up wrong. If it still doesn't show a charge you have other problems or the generator is charging in the wrong direction (did the cut-out points vibrate when running, if so that usually indicates a wrong polarity generator).

Generator is wired, F to ground, A to the cutout, then from the cutout to the ammeter, then ammeter to the battery. The battery is hooked up, Pos to frame, negative to the starter. I wired the cutout like the instructions showed, it is in reverse order for negative ground setups. The generator is setup for 6 volt pos ground setup. I even jumped the wires, across the cutout and still no charge. I am stumped, thanks for your help

Gpower, do you have battery power to the cut-out relay battery wire? ~If you have battery power to the cut-out & have the field wire grounded it should charge. If it still doesn't, remove the wire from the (A) post on the generator & then jumper across the cut-out & see if you have battery voltage at the wire that hooks to the (A) post, if no power you have an open in that wire.
~While the wire is off the (A) post & with the (F) post grounded to CLEAN metal, momentarily run a jumper from the big battery post on the starter to the (A) post on the generator to make sure you have a fresh & correct polarization of the generator (you should see a spark).
~Are you testing with the (F) post actually grounded or just hooked up to the light switch? If not actually grounding the (F) wire, try it. If it charges then, you have an open it the (F) control wire or bad switch.
~Post back if still no-charge.....

Clooney, I got it going this morning. Went out there, looked everything over, told myself it was all correct, started it up, and it worked. I do not know what the problem was last night, seems like I do my best work after I sleep...well more like roll and turn all night thinking about it. Shes runnin now though, thanks for you help
