I have seen quite a few antique stores and malls that have booths displaying machinest tools including good quality dial indicators at a resonable price.

Tyler, don't be afraid to spend a little extra to get a good one - it will last far longer and be more accurate, even if you only use it occasionally. I have a pretty good one that spends a lot of time in my toolbox, bouncing around in the back of a pickup, and it is still in good shape. The same holds true for micrometers, dial and digital calipers, etc. I have a Starrett 0-1 mic, and I don't think you can find one much better for the money - about $100. I also use a Mitutoyo digital caliper, and it seems to be an excellent tool also. Measuring tools and torque-wrenches are not a place to try and save money. Just my two cents.

Tyler:

There is a place called ENCO Tools, and they sell all manner of dial indicators. I recommend a 1" travel. And get a decent magnetic base.

You can probably get a combo like that from ENCO for under $40.00, or if you go with Starrett or Federal brands, it can go to well over $150.00.

ENCO has a website.
