4020 diesel has a 404ci motor. 5020 is diesel only and it has a 531ci motor. 5020 is 1000 rpm pto only. 5020 has a huge rear end compared to the 4020. There is a big weight difference in the two. 5020 is 13015 lbs. 4020 is 8615 lbs.

HI there. I own a JD 4000 71, not sure much about both those 4020 5020.. what I was told that 4020 is a easy tractor to get around with and has 3 pt. and the 5020 is like a TANK tractor some of those dont have a 3pt. pto on 5020 is always 1000 rpm. and 4020 can be different 540 or 1000. you'd be happy with a 4020 or 4000..

Not certain but I'm thinking the 5020's are 1000 RPM only on the PTO.
I know the 4020's are 540 or 1000 RPM.

From same era, but built for different purposes (assuming we're talking row-crop 4020s, which most were); 4020s about 94 hp, very nimble for hp, great all-around tractor. 5020s about 135 hp, standard design, built for heavy tillage, maybe underpowered for weight.
