Has anyone tried to add new brass to the shifting fork of the engage/disengage colar with any sucess. (not sure if i used the correct terminology hut it is the colar inside that operates the clutch)

needed one for my 60, called JD dealer and it is $105.00 and they ordered it, got it next day. have heard you was to replace between 25-50% wear, think this is because of cracking and possible breakage.

farmuse,
I bought a used collar for $25 from Wenger's in Myerstown, PA. The price range while I was looking ranged from over $100 for NOS from a local dealer to $15 from someone on the internet. I opted for Wenger's because I could drive over and get it the same day. One work of advice if you buy a used one, take a good look at it because they seem to all wear and crack at the same place.
I don't know about the repair, if you have to pay someone to do it, it may be cheaper to buy one.

farmuse, I have added brass to those forks using brazing rod then ground to correct thickness with a small right angle sander. ~I haven't done it on a work tractor & only used the repaired forks for low hour use, so can't say how it will hold up to hard usage.
~A new (used) good fork shouldn't be too expensive if you aren't sure about repair.....

Appears to me the brass is only used as a wear surface on the outside of the colar. I am pretty good with a torch and brass as well as a good clean file. My concern was the old oil soaked brass how would it bond and did the factory use some type of harder brass material? I will put this tractor back to work, but if i can save myself a hundred bucks.....

Farmuse:

I haven't done it, but I once saw them do it at a mechanic shop I was visiting.

Also, I have heard of people who have built them up with brazing. I don't see why it would not work.
