I just bought a John Deer B tractor here are the only numbers I could find on the tractor (B1858R) (B1840R) (B1767R)(PLB100492) The tractor has a hydraulic on it and a 3 point, and a pto, It has been converted to a 12 volt. It also a 2 speed axle. I can't figure out what year it was made. It also has a small plate that says (250) on it on the right hand side below the maganeto. Also can anyone tell me how much oil it holds. and how to get the engine unstuck it has been sitting about 2 years. Thanks so much for any help anyone can give me. Lanny

The most important thing here is not to get impatient. Do NOT pull it with another piece of equipment and "pop" the clutch. You WILL break many expensive and hard to replace parts.

Not to put you in dismay, but the numbers you have given are casting numbers. The best one could do is give you a range in age unless you find the actual tag. It was held in place with two drive in button head rivets. Usually found on the engine block at or around the magneto. It is a big tag and will say JOHN DEERE and a number. Stamped in not raised casting letters/numbers as you've described.

If you're going to use it for show, convert it back to 6 volt. It will be fine.

To get it unstuck. PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE. And a concoction of any number of penetrating lubricants. Just take the plugs out and fill. From time to time 1st remove plugs and then move flywheel a little at a time by hand. This will take TIME. Only other alternative is take engine apart and have the pistons pressed out.

Between the 1941-6 model years. Has it been setting outside for 2 yrs. I would pull valvecover first to check for stuck valves, then depending on what you find i'd decide if the cyls. head should come off. If the valves are ok them i would fill the cyl. W/ diesel fuel and let it set afew days, jack up 1 wheel and with clutch engaged(and in gear) try to rock wheel with a helper if possible. Just something to try.
