I have a new Silverado with the trailering package & the dealer doesn't know how to install the patch harness so that I can connect my trailer brakes. The owners manual is somewhat cryptic in this regard & I figrured that one of my friends on the Deere board must have one of these beasts & could tell me how to do it. Thanks for any help - Phil

Deere Puller, see attached wire diagram (you might have to print it or right click on it & save to a photo program to read it) for wire pin-out. ~I don't know what you are pulling on your trailer, if you are like me & pulling more than your truck brakes can safely stop without trailer brake assist, I would highly recommend using a 40 amp maxi fuse then installing a 30 amp auto-reset circuit breaker in the wire from the power post to the brake controller. If you blow that maxi fuse (the good news is they blow hard) you won't have any trailer brakes until you stop & change that fuse (there lies the problem)..... .

I have an 01 Duramax Silverado,it came with
a trailer connector harness in the glove box.
It plugs into the upper left corner of the fuse
box. It's a 6 wire plug,but only has 5 wires.
These things use very small wiring, some of the
wires are pencil lead size.

Dear Deere Puller, I also work at a GM dealership, when the new Silverado came out they finally followed Fords footsteps and made access for a trlr. brake controller.( Ford since the early-mid 90's have had a plug under the center of the dash on factory equipped trlr. packages) GM offers a wiring harness to adapt to your controller but could offer a complete controller-wiring accessory! It seems to me that GM's former Disney employed engineers get about 9/10 of the job done on everything they touch! At the underhood electrical center over the left inner fender the 50 amp. MAXI fuse should go in the 3rd. slot from the left.

4th slot from the left and its a 40 amp. maxi fuse. And as Ray indicated those wires are small. Just got thru putting on a GM Accy. hitch kit on tonight, along with a GM fog lamp package.

If your truck has the dual battery option, don't install the additional maxi fuse at all, according to the directions on the cord. I should be dragging the electric brake controler out of the Jimmy & wiring it into the Sierra as well.

Deere puller. I work at a gm dealership. You should have gotten a wiring harness with it (probably located in glove box). That is wired in your brake controler
and plugged in on drivers side under dash, in a junction box. Should be by our left foot area. Take cover off and plug in.
Then open hood, on left side(drivers side) there
is aunder hood fuse box. You need to install a maxi fuse in one the empty slots. Can't remember right now what the fuse name is. You also should have gotten a adaptor to stick in round trailor plug that goes to a flat four.
This is what you need to do, as long as the truck is equipt with factory trailor tow package.
If you have any other question just e-mail me.

I have a '03 Chevy Silverado W/factory Towing Package. The cover on the plug Says + battery @ about 2 o'clock and - battery @ about 7 o'clock.
This should charge batery on trailer when pluged in, the battery is not charging. With engine running I think I should see 12-14vdc across these two terminals. Is there a fuse thats blown?
If so could anybody tell me which one? The book is not that helpful. Thanks,

JDJack: My 02 Silverado has a couple of connection pads on the frame at the back for lights. I bought a "kit" to connect 3-wire trailer (turn-stop-run) lights and all it has is a 7 wire plug and a 4 wire adaptor with very criptic instructions. My 00'Silverado required an adaptor for (Lturn-Rturn-Brake-Run) light. Is this already built into the 02? Thanks for your help. Frank
