The transfer pump on my 720D Std leaks fuel from between the pump body and the outer plate. I took it apart, it looks OK, cleaned it up, reassembled and it still leaks. Should I use a sealer of some kind between these surfaces? Thanks.

Dick:

Do you have any way to check that cover for flatness ? Perhaps it has just a tad bit of warp in it, and you could lap it out. I had two different pumps apart this year, and neither had any form of sealer from the factory.

I did lap the plates a bit on my big old flat plate, and they got so flat you could wring them up against the body and they stayed put on their own.

Otherwise, a very light coating of gasket shellac is what I would use. Don't use RTV silicone.

When I had it apart, I did check the plate quickly for flatness and it seemed OK. I guess I should work it little with some lapping compound and put back on with some shellac. Thanks for the help.
