How can one adjust the generator charging rate on the 6 volt generator on my John Deere LA Tractor? The generator is completely rebuilt and only charges 6.5 volts and should charge 7.0 volts. The voltage regulator is also new. Thanks.

AWB, it's been over 20 years since I have worked with an LA so keep that in mind when I tell you this.
~As far as I can remember the LA didn't use a voltage regulator, but only used a cut-out relay (rectangular instead of square & only 2 terminals instead of 3 or 4). If it has an actual voltage regulator, post back or E-Mail me as the adjustment procedure for a regulator is quite involved.
~If it does have a cut-out relay (rectangular & 2 terminals) then all you will have to do is adjust the 3rd (movable) brush in the generator in the same direction that the generator turns (usually closer to the armature output (non grounded) brush. ~I'm not sure on the LA but if it has a (F) field post on the generator that has a wire running to the headlight switch try checking the voltage with the lights on or at least with the switch in the on position. In that era of tractor in most cases the light switch added a ground to the generator field with the lights on to improve charging.
