Carb trouble on B

I needed to replace the distributer cap on my 1950 B as one side kept fouling out. Well that fixed that problem. But now it seems like there is a signifigant loss in horsepower. The timing is now perfect, but the carb adjustments are off it seems. When I close out the idle screw all the way the tractor doesn't run any different than when the idle screw is open. I suspect it to be clogged. How do I go about unclogging it? Also what is the proper way of setting the carb?

Thanks,

Karl

PS I've decided not to sell the B!

Karl, the idle screw should have a big effect on the idle & should actually stall the tractor when turned all the way in at idle. ~Your post isn't real clear as to what speed the engine was at when you adjusted the idle screw but the idle screw has little to no effect on the power at WOT or high throttle settings, once the carb is supplying most of it's fuel from the main nozzle the idle screw is pretty well out of the picture.
~The idle screw should be adjusted at idle speed to give a good steady idle.. The load needle should be adjusted under load (or set then tested under load) until the engine starts to misfire then slowly backed out until the engine pulls good without mis-fire.
~If you suspect the load or idle screws aren't working correctly you will have to remove the brass plugs from the passage ends & use a wire or long drill bit to clean them out.
~Make sure you have a good fuel supply to the carb, if that isn't up to par it will never make good power & a load needle adjustment won't change the power or help the running.
~Open the drain on the bottom of the carb & make sure you have a pencil sized stream of fuel for at least 30 seconds, if not find out why. Sometimes the fuel shut-off isn't opened far enough so start there.
~If after the above checks you still can't get it to run good & make power, post back or E-mail me for a carb diagram of what passages to clean..... .....

I do know that I am getting good gas flow to the carb, I have done that open the petcock thing before. Gas runs out strong. I did the adjustment with the throttle all the way closed.

THanks,

Karl

Karl, sounds like the carb has a blocked passage. I will E-Mail you a diagram tomorrow, I'm not on my home network right now.....

No prob. Thanks for the help! I also noticed that the load needle has to be open a bit for the tractor to run, so that may also be telling me that the needle is clogged.

Thanks,

Karl
