60 clutch problems

Hello out there. I reassemble my clutch today. With new springs , new clutch discs and I cleaned up the adjusting bolts and put a little of high temp grease on them. My clutch still does'nt snap in and out like it should.The operating sleeve has a tang with a hole where a steel pin slides through. That hole is elongated. Would that cause my problem?Thanks in advance.

John, it could, if the sleeve rotates because of slop in the drive pin hole the toggles don't go straight over center, they will go sideways as well.
~That pin to sleeve play should be repaired. I usually drill the sleeve hole out to be round then make a larger diameter drive pin to fit the hole, with a step in the pulley end to fit in the original pulley hole. Care must be used to not drill the hole out to the center of the oval hole but either will have to have the center of the hole drilled to the original position or just drill the hole to the center of the oval hole & make an offset pin, the reason is, the sleeve must have the toggle pockets in line with the dog pockets.
~I guessing here as I can't see the clutch parts involved, but repairing that pin is a big step in the right direction but might not be the total answer to your snap in problem. Wear in the sleeve holes where the toggles seat & excess play in the pulley tab pin holes, dogs & pivot pins are other key players in the snap-in equation. ~The snap-in you feel is the result of the toggles going over center far enough to lock themselves in the over-center position until the sleeve is moved in the release direction by the clutch fork to force the toggles to go back over center in the release direction. Anything that keeps the toggles from going completely over center like wear in the toggle sockets on either end, wear in the pulley tab holes, wear on the pivot pins, wear in the dog holes or drive pin wear that will not allow the sleeve end of the toggle to pass the dog end of the toggle will add to the lack of a clean SNAP when engaging or dis-engaging the clutch. ~The lack of a clean snap in a clutch with many hours on it is usually the result of cumulative wear on many clutch operating parts & is hard to repair with just one part of the system. Sometimes repairing just a few of the worn parts will improve the snap enough to make the clutch feel good.
~Those clutch operating parts are expensive & sometimes the clutch can be made to snap again by machining about .020" from the outer ( pulley) end of the operating sleeve to allow it to travel closer to the pulley & allowing the sleeve end of the toggles to travel farther outboard..... ...
