I need to pull the rockshaft on my 520 to replace the seals on the front of the pto unit. I have the hyd. lines out of the pump but cannot get them out of the rockshaft. I have been aplying preasure to the lines and rattling them with a mallet like I did on the pump but they won't budge. I also tried to punch them in a little to get them broke loose. The next step isn't pretty or cheap. Does anybody have a slick trick to loosen the lines without destroying them?
Thanks Guys, Eric T.

I have another idea on pulling the lines but need some more input. I screwed the two line clamp bolts into the rockshaft housing then put the horseshoe clamp on the line and slid it up against the heads of the capscrews. I put a hose clamp on the steel line and slid it down against the horseshoe clamp and drew it tight. I ended up with three clamps on the line shoulder to shoulder. Then I backed out the two clamp bolts against the clamp and used them as jack screws to force the line out. I can put a lot of straight push on the line like this and I think most lines would move but mine is not. What I need to figure out is a more positive clamp on the line. Adding more hose clamps may be the answer or maybe you guys can think of something.

I don't know...that line is just sitting in there up against an o-ring. You've had the other ends out so you know how they're shaped.

How warm have you gotten the area? I think you need heat to liquify that old crud/grease/oil/paint.

I don't have any ideas on gripping the tube other than what you have already tried. The next would be to have a split-block made, with the hole at the or just a tad less than the tube daimeter. Then clamp that on, and back out your jack screws.

Risky, though. Have you been spraying your favorite lube on it between heats ?

I also put a rag around the line close to the housing, clamped vise grips and then I could use a bar and work the line straight out. Don't over clamp the vise grip and damage the line. The purpose is to get a straight pry on the line at the same time tapping with the rubber mallet.

I got the suction line out this morning by heating and cooling it, then steady pull and tapping. I'm going to put a hose clamp on the other line to pull on this afternoon. I'll let you know how it works.

Been there, done that !

What worked for me was a propane torch pointed right at the joint of the line and the housing. Heated and let cool about three times, then on the last try, still hot, a little careful pry with a little oak stick (don't want to deform those lines).

I told A Man down below on his 730 hydro pump leak problem that getting the lines off was the toughest part of the job.

Keep at 'em, they'll come !

Just went thru what you are talking about on pulling the lines on a 730 at the hyd pump. Keeping constant pressure on the line while tapping with a rubber mallett seems to work but one thing I found was to pull on an exact line with the connection, any thing off of center will only put it in a bind.

If you have the room make up a split wood block that you can clamp around the line. you can pry or pull on the block with out damaging the line.

good luck and as previously stated PATIENCE is a virtue.

I always used a rubber mallet and plenty of penetrating oil, however they probably just tight with crude....if you could vibrate...get a slight movement and work them back and forth they should loosen...if you destroy they are $$$$$$$$...you can't get too horsey with them...be patient
