Getting ready to install my first tractor head. Any tips would be appreciated. Coat the gasket??

Also, did Deere stop installing push rod bushings in the head on later models. Mine does not seem to have them.

Thanks.
Bob

Spent some time in an engine rebuilding shop as an assembler. Or I guess I should say reassembler. Either way, we used copper coat or aluminum paint on all headgaskets and intake and exhaust gaskets. Regardless their composition, steel or composite.

Bob:

According to my parts CD, push rod sleeves were not used after S/N 487999.

On the head gasket, I've installed them years ago with a dip into engine oil, then a few dry, and now I use the permatex Copper spray coating (it goes on looking on like copper-colored spray paint). The copper spray seems to be recommended by lots of folks on the board here.

I've never really had a problem with an "A" head gasket, and we used high-compression pistons in our '48. I do always like to re-torque hot after it has run for a while.
