I'd been having trouble starting my pony for the last several months. It always seemed like the battery was low, but it wasn't. The starter wasn't turning the pony over fast enough to get it to fire. Then, one day, the starter just hummed.Took it off, disassembled the starter, and the armature shaft had broke right in two, right where that 3/16 inch diameter hole is for that set screw. The armature itself had been rubbing against the field coils too. So it had been going out for a while. I took it all apart, brazed the shaft back together again, put a homemade collar on the outside of the shaft, brazed it on too, reassembled the starter, put it back on the pony, and whalla.....it's my old pony again. Starts right up now. The starter turns the pony over about 3 times faster than what it was. BA
