What's the best way to get all the gear lube out of the final drive (axle) housing? I want it clean without it becoming rusty inside before I put the races back in.

thanks

If you have the axle housing off of the tractor, all I can say is prepare to get very dirty. I recently did this on my G, and all that would get all the grease out of there is repeated blastings with a pressure washer. I suppose you could take the housing to someone who has a hot-tank, that would be the easiest way. Even after I got done spending an hour in the steam room, I still had some residual grease in there to wipe out with shop towels. I am pretty much a perfectionist though when it comes to getting components clean. Good luck with your tractor.

I specifically mean in the area between the bearings where it isn't supposed to be. The oil seals were shot and both sides are full of gear lube.

Thanks again.

Farmer Jack, you can use a suction gun to remove most of it then find someone with small hands to reach in & wipe the wells clean with rags or paper towels. It will take quite a few towels & some time but will clean up. ~If the rear housing is off the tractor I usually hang the housing from my loader or chain fall with the axle tubes vertical & let it drain overnight..... ..
