i own a 1960 John Deere model 830 Diesel "rice Special" with electric start. Does anyone know how many of these electric start rice special were made during 1960 and the entire 30 series run? I'm trying to figure what it is worth restored but I haven't been able to find any other ones. All I have left to do on mine is the sheetmetal.

Since Deere didn't assign a special code to rice tractors, there is no way to tell for sure how many 830 electric rice specials were built. The best I can suggest is sit down with a 30 series production register and a map and start counting the ones shipped to rice country. Even then there is a good chance some of those may have not had rice equipment. If you're concerned about value, you shouldn't mind spending the $30 or so for a production register. If you're not sure, I can tell you where to buy one, and will be glad to look up your tractor. However I'll need some time to sit down and count through the whole list. By the way, I have a couple of R's, an 80, and a 60 low seat that all have rice equipment. Hope that helped. Feel free to email if I can help any further.
