I am wanting to buy a disc for my JD3020 diesel, was wondering how big of a disc it would pull. Have both sandy high ground and low ground with clay.

I have used a 13' John Deere RWA disc behind my 3020gas. It was all that the 3020 wanted, but it would pull it. Since I got the 4020D, the RWA seems a bit small---it is amazing how fast you can pull it. I would say that 12' should be enough for a 3020 in almost any type of soil.

We pulled a 13' with our 4020s also. They played with it in 5th gear. It was the same disc that Dad pulled with a 730 gas. There was a time or two when we was short a tractor when we'd pull it with our 3020 gas but we really weren't socking it in, just making the last pass ahead of the planter. We had to keep an eye on the 3020's temp gauge too. It was always a temptation to bump it a gear higher than we should have been.HJ

I have a 14 foot Model 210 with the cone disks. It is too big for a 3020. 4020 can handle it well. Other neighbors pull up to 18 foot disks with the 4020, as long as they are conventional blades. This is on clay loam.

When I was farming with a 3020 The biggest offset disk I could pull was a 9 ft and it was tuff going but it had no weight on tires and that would help a lot even with a rebuilt motor it did no better in our country is sand and also a lot of clay with a 4020 it was like two 3020 put together what a differance but if hook a disk to any thing its my A it pull my offset as well as my 3020 if not better That my two cents

Hey Lee,
I have a 64 model 3020 and a 12' International model 37 disk and it seems to be just right. I personally think a 12' is plenty big for the tractor. I don't like the idea of overloading a tractor and pushing it too far. Its alot less costly making a few extra rounds than replacing parts.

Lee, I think your tractor would handle a 15ft disc with no problem. A disc like a old BWA would be perfect and sometimes you can buy one for about $300. I bought a 18ft. manual fold for my 4020 3 years ago for $325 and I love it. I have a 496 IH that is 32ft and that little 18 does a better job sometimes.

I pull a 12ft with my 4020 real good,even on big hills. You 3020 will pull a 10 or 12ft really well
