I am looking to tend 5-10 acres with a JD A and am looking for some direction with regard to implements. It does not have a 3pt. hitch or hydraulics. I am needing everything from dirt to barn. Disk, drill, mower, rake, baler...I need it all. If anyone can help me know what mods would better suited for the A and/or has working pieces, I would love it. I prefer to keep it all JD as much as possible. Thanx

Model A tractors would like #5 mowers, the semi-integral 350 rake, and the 14t baler. Only the #5 would have been made at the same time as the A, but the rake is 7' and NOT the old 596 rake with the steel wheels. Also, balers made prior to the 14t were cumbersome. You can get the 14t with separate engine drive if you look hard enough. This will overcome the lack of live pto. You could also try to locate a 22Crusher or 32 Crimper (I may have those labeled backwards). All of this equipment should still be fairly easy to find. If you want a bit newer, the 640 rakes are pull type, very common, and expensive (for their age). Deere also made a pull type rake called the 896 (I think) in the later 50s and you might find one of them. Getting MATCHED equipment for an A may not work too well, but mid to late 1950s equipment will work, and if you upgraded your tractor to say a 60 or a 620 you WOULD have matched equipment. Good luck.
