T hinton, the usual place that kind of noise comes from is the pulley bearing, but could be almost anything including worn clutch plates or the pulley rubbing the dust shield. ~With the trans in neutral, engine off & clutch dis-engaged, try turning the pulley to see if you can pinpoint the noise, then remove the cover & turn it again, then remove the clutch disks & turn again, then after marking it's position to the crankshaft, remove the drive disk & inner clutch disk & turn again. If the noise goes away as parts are removed you are close to the problem. ~If the noise is still there with all the parts removed you probably have a dry or worn clutch pulley bearing & the pulley should be removed, the bearing removed, inspected & re-packed with hi-temp grease. ~All the parts you removed had to come out to remove the pulley anyhow. You will also have to remove the clutch fork bearing & fork (the oblong cover with 4 bolts on the front of the 1st reduction cover) to get the pulley off.

thanks clooney i took the outer clutch apart i will remove the clutch fork and check the bearing also the drive disk gear teeth and the floter plate teeth are realy worn the drive disk missing a couple teeth is it important for these parts to fit well. they are a sloppy fit now thanks for the reply have a good day.

Tim, the drive & floater plate should fit together pretty good & the teeth should all be there. As long as the drive disk & floater will engage, not slip, be so far out of alignment they won't stay centered, keep from rubbing the adjusting bolts, or jamb in the engaged position they will probably work, but will be noisy & not engage smoothly.
~The important thing is that the drive disk is a tight fit on the crank splines & not loose on the crank or pulled on the crank splines too far. If any of those things exist you will need to remedy that problem..... ..

thanks clooney for all your advice and help. i took the clutch fork off and the pulley. it looks like the bushing on the inner side was dry. should that dushing be wet from the crankcase or should i just greese it up every now and then? the clutch drive is tight on the shaft i had to use a puller to get it off i will check on the price to replace the drive and the floter disk thanks again.
