Didn't I see you on a playground yesterday. You had a big brother around somewhere...

Probably jealous that you can't buy your favorite brand with an "original" color painted on it!

What Deere needs is another Wm. A Hewitt running the company. Company is still riding on his past influence & leadership but the other brands will be catching up soon. Too many educated people running the company that never had any business experience except what they were taught in school. Too many engineers & accountants that never had mud on their boots or changed a bearing at 1:00AM to get the harvest in.

Mr. Taylor I agree with you 100% If not for William Hewitt Deere might have ended up part of Agco. But he was one of the last of a dying breed.
And you are right about the others catching up too. Dating back to John Deere himself the company policy was to not rest on their laurels but move ahead. But where are you going to find another man like that?

Newgen, we need a man who was raised up on a farm, Values a hard day of work and can figure out how to make a series of tractors and implements that is easy to work on and take out some of the electrical bull$#@* out of the SCV outlets and other things. Kind of Mimic a 4020 but have the cab luxury of the 8020 series at a reduced price of the competitor. How much more technology can we get on a tractor? Some of this stuff is a little far-fetched even for a young guy. A driverless tractor takes the fun out of farming don't it? Just my two cents.....

I know what you mean and I agree, but Hewitt was raised in the city. He just was a well educated man with common sense, ambition, an eye to the future, and work ethic with an ability to delegate. And those are qualities not often found these days.

Hewitt was often seen operating Deere equipment for more than just photo oportunites. All and I mean ALL Deere executives need to spend a couple of weekends a year doing 16 hour shifts, driving & servicing JD equipment in the field. Cheaper than a "think tank" retreat as well. Sales & stock prices would go up overnight along with improved equipment designs the next Monday.

A few weeks ago, a fella posted a flow chart on which all the major farm equipment companies were originally and what they are today. I also charted the changes in corporate ownership and company colors that occured over the years. There was only one straight line among them all. anyone care to guess who that is? I'd like to see that chart again.HJ

It's interesting how they had enough money to fund the biggest new product rollout in their history then, isn't it? I really don't see CAT as an ag competitor, since they won't even be making a tractor anymore, just selling them. I will also throw in that I worked for a CAT dealer for 3 years in heavy equipment/ag and the Challengers were quality machines, so I'm not ripping on them. As far as Agco goes, I'm not real concerned about them either. 90% of Deere's customer base would rather push a green tractor than drive anything else. The other 10% are the price shoppers who will buy from whoever gives them the best deal, usually not even looking at quality of service, parts availability, etc. They always pay for it in the long run. I think it will take a while for the new CEO to repair the wrongs done in previous years. Deere leaving the NASCAR arena is proof that they're serious about not wasting money on non revenue producing endeavors - it never made them any money. The new motto is "RUN LEAN", at least as far as corporate Deere is concerned. As far as smaller dealerships being bought out, this does happen - but usually at Deere's insistence. It's easy to forget that their reason for being in business is to make money. And the dealers that make the most money will replace those that don't. That big sign out front is owned by Deere & Co., not the dealership. Just my 2 cents guys.

When didn't Cat know what they were doing? When they got into Ag equipment or when they got out? I have they greatest respect for Cat equipment and management. I have a friend that works for a crushing/paving contractor. He claims you can always tell when the company hits some tough rock in a quarry, all the Cat equipment disappears from the quarry he work and they haul in imported replacement equipment that could not hack tough rock. Claims they but some imported equipment just to keep Cat salemen calculating discounts.

AGCO may have had a few good years but they are about 20 behind on service, part efficiency and most of all QUALITY!! JOHN DEERE may have stumbled on financial gain in the past 2 years but I'll lay may money on the green and yellow sign time and time again. I don't want to start contraversy and maybe that is what NAVION wants. I advise navion to buy a agco tractor or implement. Hey Navion, Ever heard of RESALE VALUE?

AGCO DEERE???? LOL!! Very Funny!

Here's a Better idea:

Why not make everyone either very mad or else very estatic? DEERE-IH! (Your choice of paint color too!) Put the DT466 in front of the 15sp powershift, combine the best features of the MX and 8000 series tractors in ONE machine and PERMENANTLY blow AGCO into the weeds (where most of their stuff is parked anyway)

Let CNH become CASE-NEW HOLLAND with no IH content at all! This way we'll have Orange AGCOs. BLUE CNHs, and your choice of REDs or GREENs with a DEERE-IH! Anyone else care to comment?

Sounds good Jim, My old uncle used to call AGCO the Easter Egg Store because for a while agco was switching colors about every year. You didn't have to state the year of the tractor when you needed parts, you'd just tell the parts guy the color!HA
