Harold, the lever is for 2 different settings to use the dual powertrol. With the lever forward and the left lift arms pinned together is for max lift using both pistons.---With the lever to the rear and the lift arms on the left side un-pinned you have independent use of either side and the left control knob will control the left side and the right control knob will control the right side. Caution;;; if using in the forward position, DO NOT use the left control lever-knob to operate lift or damage can result. Keep the left lever behind a stop to keep from using it. This is a feature of the Dual Powertrol to use front mounted cultivators or other equipment and enables you to lift either side independently.
