Why does JD and JD fans proclaim the 4010 tractor and the 55 combine as the most copied in the world? I can't see it.

Now I've heard it all... 4010 a copy of an 1800, lets see, they started developing the new generation in the late 50's.

I think brain dead is a generous term!

Keep smiling!

Your 1800 don't have
Roll-Gard
Power differential lock
Closed center Hydraulics
Hydraulic Power Brakes
Posture seat

A 4010 didn't have Roll-Gard or differential lock either. What about dry air cleaner and turbocharging or tilt steering or side console controls or a large operator platform or spin out wheels or ground fill fuel tank or a wet clutch or etc,etc.... Oh wait JD did have first roll-o-matic and front mount fuel tank and rack-and-pinion rear axles.....dang...nobody copied those.
A name for a seat means nothing either!

I AGREE THAT THE 55 COMBINE WAS WIDELY COPIED.
BUT THE 4010 HAD PROBLEMS THAT'S WHY DEERE BROUGHT
OUT THE 3020/4020 IN 1963 TO CORRECT THE 3010/4010
PROBLEMS.

Don't try to put a lowly 55 with the ranks of a Gleaner let alone above a Gleaner. LL

Give a few exsamples as to why the 55 would be considered most copied and a few reasons why the 4010 or 4020 would be. I know of a couple "first" for each but every company has a couple. What features excactly would be the reason to identify these machines as "The most copied". Thanks.

We can thank deere for giving us a tractor with multiple cylinder vertical inline engines, even though everybody else was doing it for 30 or 40 years or more.

The 55 combine had retracting fingers in the platform auger. If you look at any combine made today,it has retracting fingers.
As for tractors. I think the most copied of all things,is the name Power Shift!
Ford had Select-O-Speed. You don't see that name used today. Today! CaseIH Ford MF and you name it has Power Shift.

Having fingers or an auger platform at all is a Gleaner thing, about 1930. The Power Shift name thing is pretty weak cause what about Hart Parr and the use of the name "tractor". LL.

Roll-Gard
Hydraulic Power Brakes
Posture seat
Closed Center Hydraulics
Hydraulic Power Differential lock
3 point hitch (with lower link sensing)
Syncro Range Transmission (with synchronizers)

55 Combine
Was the first combine in the industry to center the operator on top and locate the grain tank and engine directly behind the operator.

Yes MF and Ford did have the first 3 pt hitch. But it did not have lower link sensing.
