I'd like to find out what kind of disk harrow my 730d should be able to pull easily...also what plows can it handle.

Thanks to you all for the valuable input.

I dis-assembled the seat and extracted the torsion "bushings" (I know that is not the correct term)...I see why people want $150 labor to rebuild the seat..It took 3 hours from tractor to, tore down on the bench. Now I must find the parts and put it all together again....I wouldn't do it for $150...maybe $250???

Drove my fathers 730D growing up. It handled a 55 JD plow, 4-16's easily in stubble. Dad always plowed deep too, in fourth gear. We had a 14 foot IH 37 disc, in cornstalks it was a light load in 4th gear, in plowing it made the old girl snort.

Enjoy that tractor, I kick myself everytime I think of when I sold Dads!

When I was a kid the first tractor I drove was a 730 LP. I was pulling an old Krause disc and if I remember right it was 14 ft. I know I was pulling it in 3rd gear. Hope this helps.

A 730D should pull 4-14" or 3-16" in any soil. Mine has pulled both well in the yellow bull tallow clay we have in central NC. I also use an AW disk with it, but it is not much of a load for it.

The 730 was a 59HP tractor that was built to run at rated 1125 rpm outputting 47.2 HP continuous with the remainder in reserve for "tough spots". According to Firestone the tractor should weigh between 7375 to 8555 lbs with 25 to 35% of that weight on the front wheels while at rest.Granted a standard 730 with 3 point hitch can weight over 8000lbs before ballasting. Travel speed for heavy draught loads should be 3 to 5 mph on bias tires which is 3rd or 4th gear.

We just rebuilt a 730D last spring. So far I've got 15 hours on tach. and it's all been pulling a 4-14" plow. I like to run it at least 8" deep and it pulls very nicely. That is in heavy soil. That should have seated in the motor much nicer than just parading.

what gear you pulling it in? Red clay soil around here I don't think it would like as many bottoms!

It will pull it in 3rd quite a bit of the time. If it gets to lugging really hard then drop to 2nd. That will pull it any where. My friend that overhauled does a terrific job and everything is new including injectors, nozzles, complete engine.

I'm not sure if it's a good comparison, but we had a 720LP for several years and pulled a 12 ft. JD tandem disk with it, it would pull it with the wheels all the way up most of the time, but it was really all it could handle when it was digging good. I also used a 9-shank chisel plow on it but we usually took the 2 outside plows off and just used 7 when we put the sweeps on it.

A JD BWA would be a good general purpose match for a 730.
