840 Tractor, anything in particular to watch out for?

Are there any components of the 840 industrial tractor that warrant extra scrutiny? Just purchased a well worn tractor without scraper and want to avoid missing any common but not obvious items to service while checking it over. It has enough hours to have worn out at least one set of front & rear tractor tires.
Already have the parts CD rom for the 830I & the operator plus 820/830 service manuals (only ones available) are in the mail. From what info can be gathered, the tractor quit and the scraper was transplanted onto something else with more power.

I have had an 840 for several years and I'll try to fill you in on what I have found out first hand. First of all, the reason mine was parked was because the pivot mechanism in the shifter was so worn it would not come out of reverse. After making all the parts that were missing, and remaking the rest, it works perfectly. Next check for jumping out of gears or a noisy second or first gear. Mine jumps out of 4th if you don't give it a little push every few minutes. It works really good to slip it out of 4th and coast down then fee lit into fist when you finish your dump and get back ready to start loading. I assume that's why 4th is worn on mine. Next brakes that have sat for a while will probably need the master cylinders and slave cylinders repaired. The fianl thing is that since the hydraulic levers are used so much, everyting associated with them tends to wear. The shaft had worn into the valve body on mine. A few trips to the machine shop later it works right again. Aside form the obvious stuff associated with operating a good portion of its life pulling its guts out, that is what I have run into. If you need any help in the future please don't hesitate to email me. With a scraper they can move their share of dirt, and are a fine machine. Without the scraper they still are good for anything that requires a lot of brute strength. And at the show, they are in a class by themselves.
