I've seen different ads for electronic ignition and was wondering if anyone has tried it? Are they all made by the same company? Genesee Products seems ring a bell. Thinking of putting it on my 50...any comments?

We've been installing electronic ignitions in New Generation tractors for about 6 months now. It makes such a huge difference in starting that customers don't even blink at the extra expense. We've found it to work especially well in LP tractors, which seem to need a good, hot spark to start and run well. I guess it would be because of the higher compression than gasoline tractors. Anyway, we've installed several and had no complaints. Just remember to order one with the right polarity for your electrical system. We get ours from a local auto parts store.

I can't give electronic ignition enough praise. It's as big a break through as going to 12 volts.

I bought mine from CBS Performance in Colorado Springs CO.I really like the even firing that I now have.It will also let you adjust the timeing and plug gap and maybe fuel settings for a few more ponies.Hope this helps,Jack(TN).

50Man, while an electronic ignition system can add some dwell time & give a little cleaner coil field collapse it's main advantage is allowing a higher output coil to be used as the transistor in the electronic module can handle a higher sustained current flow than a set of points can.
~If a larger plug gap is used in conjunction with the higher output coil a (possibly) better idle can be obtained & a better spark at cranking speed will usually be seen.
~If your 50 has a (good up to spec) ignition system on it now & it starts good cold & doesn't foul spark plugs, you probably will see very little difference with an electronic ignition set-up. ~If you are having ignition problems like fouled plugs, poor starting or point burning then an electronic system will show you an improvement.
~On your 50, if you don't have by-pass starting allowing 12 volts to the coil during cranking & 6 volts running, (must use a 6 volt coil) the addition of that will give you a big starting improvement & is usually worth the addition to your 50.
~I don't use an electronic system on any of my antique tractors & have no reason to as they all start great & idle well with no plug fouling.
