Hi, a friend of mine has a 49' A that he wants to switch over to pioneer ends. He wants to remove the original couplers, run hoses from there around the seat, (so that it is more convenient for him) and then switch to Pioneer couplers. I don't see why this won't work, but am I missing something? Let me know some info that I can relay to him. Thanks, Luke

There are plugs on the rt side of the powertrol, at the same height as the rear connections....get the necessary pipe parts to plumb from these, and put the Pioneer fittings on them.... Usually a short double male, and a 90*..then the pioneer fitting. Otherwise you could ruin a set of expensive JD rear fittings by drilling them, and tapping the end for the pioneer fitting...JD used to sell these...You can find them, but they are too expensive...use the side outlets.....

If you leave the Deere rockshaft type plugs in the remote hose coupling holes & put the female Pioneer couplings on pipe fittings in the pipe plug holes in the side of the tractor you stand to break pipes or hoses if you pull away from the implement & forget to uncouple the hoses first or if the drawn implement uncouples like an old #44 polw. Also you will have pressure in just one hole and then only AFTER the rockshaft reaches the fully raised position! You won't have any pressure out of the other hole at all. To remedy these problems & still use the side pipe plug holes you'd need to put the regular hose end couplers in the back with pipe plugs in them instead of hoses unless you have two of the still more expensive special valved plugs. Then what's the point? I've had by far the best luck with the following and have re-plumbed three of my tractors like this. Starting with the regular remote Deere hose ends, I screwed a 45* street ell into a 90* street ell & put them into the top hose connector. I ran a hose from here over the axle housing but under the platform to the left side where I placed a regular Pioneer remote coupling breakaway bracket & ran this hose straight into the top connector. From the lower hole I ran a 90* street ell to a hose routed straight down looping underneath the rockshaft housing but over the drawbar. I put about a 2" nipple, a 90* ell (pointing down) in the back of the bottom Pioneer coupling, put about a 3" nipple & coupling on it & connected the hose to the coupling. It might look neater if some steel tube was used in place of some of the ells but I went the cheap route.

I still have emergency breakaway for when the plow hits a rock or when CRS strikes me as I drive away after unhooking. I don't loose oil or introduce dirt and have not had a rockshaft piston seal or cylender gasket go bad on any tractor since plumbed this way. To use the rockshaft I pull the hoses out, tie them fast, put the screw on caps over them & plug in the regular JD rockshaft plugs.

Just what I've done with mine and have NEVER regretted. As for the special valved plug... It has a nice dry home in a drawer in the shop! Have not been tempted to use it since.

My two coppers for today.

Later.
