I saw a tractor today that I had never seen before. It was an Industrial tractor with the 401-B designation on the rear side of the hood. At first I thought it might be a 1020 or something like that, but it was bigger than one of those (I think).

Would this have been an Industrial version of a 3010/3020? It did have the hood lines of the 10/20 series New Generation tractors.

Thanks,

Stan

cannonball,

Would the sheet metal on the 401-B have been a carryover from the 10/20 series tractors? The pictures of the 2440s that I've been able to find look like Generation II tractors.

I think Brandon is correct. Seems like it's the same as the 2020, but don't take that to the bank.

I think the 301 was same as the 1020.

I don't know about all the varieties, 01, 02 ect.

I'm not really sure, but the JD401B may be a later version of the JD400, which was based on the 2020. If you are interested, I have about 30 pictures of a blue painted 401B. It was on a website, and I saved every one!

As soon as the designations started getting beyond JD300, JD400, JD500, JD600, and JD700 I got confused. If anyone can explain all the different suffixes, and changes from the JD400 to the JD401, I would very happy.

Thanks and good luck,
Brandon "The industrial JD nut"

Brandon,

Thanks for the info. It may well have been an industrial version of the 2020 that I saw. The color was an Industrial Yellow that sure could have used a wax job and might have then looked pretty good. It was a good candidate for that car wax they used to advertise as bringing back junkyard cars' finishes.
