Is there any tricks to get more power out of the modle D. I have a 1948 D with gas pistons in it and cold air intake. I have rebuilt the engine now and I have dyno'd the tractor and it puts out 62 HP peak, 52 HP constant. Can I get more than that with out a lot of work or is that cool the way it is?

Jonathan that is pretty darn good, will tell you that I lost 6 HP by the dyno, going to a gas manifold from the Rosewood twin exhaust, a true cold manifold. some where I read that JD said a 5 HP gain with gas pistons and gas manifold. My thoughts are there isn't much difference between a all fuel and gas manifold as the right hand exhaust still has to go around the intake, thus heating it, shorter distance I know but still heats the intake part.
Get rid of the oil bath part of the air cleaner by converting it to dry type filter, pretty easy to do and still look original. Also make sure the airways are clean. Think the best thing to do too is a little port and polish work on the head and valves.
Hope some of this will help, email me and we can get into it more if you like.

John I think 62 is very good, isnt the D about the same HP as the JD A? I just put one together with 125 over pistons and a gas duel ex. manifold ,but havent fired it up yet I hope mine has 60+ !!
