Paul, The 650 was built from 1981 - 1988. It was a two cylinder diesel. The whole tractor was built by Yanmar Diesel of Japan for John Deere. It was rated at 14.5 HP. It was available with a mechanical front wheel drive as an option. One of the most fuel efficient tractors made. The 50 series Yanmar tractors had the lowest warranty cost rate of any John Deere tractor. These tractor are really a neat tractor, at a dead idle they hammer just like and old Waterloo built two cylinder diesel and when you throttle them up they run very smooth. Most were used for mowing and could be equipped with either a front live PTO electric clutch or belt driven set up from the rear PTO shaft and gear box. The biggest down fall to the small 50 series tractors was they were not a live rear PTO and no power steering. There was power steering kits that could of been dealer installed that were available. Hope this is enough information, if not post back and ask. Dave W.

We've had a 750 since new in 1982 it has 2000hours on it and the only piece that broke was the spring on the gear shift lever to return it to neutral.Parts are easily available from JD unlike some other Japan tractors.Thats probabaly why they quit makeing them they were built too good!!! P.S. the 850,950,1050, had live pto with
a two stage clutch, and the 1650 model broke the
nebraska test fuel economy record that was held
by the two-cylinder diesels 720,730 models all those years.
