Howdy. I have a 2030 John Deere tractor that has suddenly started to blow oil out the crankcase breather pipe, dipstick hole, and muffler. It suddenly started to do this. Is this happening because the piston rings are bad, or could it be because of a stuck valve or something? How can I test to see what it is? Oil leaks out of a hole or crack in the exhaust manifold, so is it more likely to be a stuck valve? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What is the likely cause of a 670 JD 3 cyl diesel blowing oil out the crankcase breather hose with the crankscase well over full with I assume diesel fuel, since I have not lost any antifreeze? Someone suggested open injector. If so can I replace just the bad one and how would I locate it?

First check to see if the vent pipe from the valve cover is plugged. Also remove the muffler and run the tractor to be sure that the muffler is not plugged. This can happen if the tractor has run cold or has been chored a lot. How many hours are on the engine? Also check the oil level to make sure it is not overfull with diesel fuel.

Check to see if theres any sign of engine coolant in the crankcase and crankcase oil in your coolant. Its possible that a cylinder sleeve has failed.

The the oil you describe as coming out of the mufler look like engine crankcase oil or just black gooky diesel fuel? Is the tractor running on all 4? How many hours on the engine?
