I tryed to start my 320. not sure how long it has sat. but when I try to spin it over it will hardly spin. I can take the plugs out and it will spin ok. could the brushes be bad in the starter?

If it has strong spark & the proper air/fuel mixture I've started the 40 (same engine)for fun with the hand crank in cold weather in two or three pulls. Odds are the battery is low or sulfated or a connection/switch has high resistance. An analog voltmeter is easiest to read. Have a helper crank the engine and check voltage across #1 battery posts not the terminals,#2 starter's battery cable post to starter motor frame #3 across the ignition coil "+" & "-". The battery and starter voltage should both be about the same at 5-1/2 volts while cranking. The coil should have at least 3-1/2 to 4 volts across it. If the battery pos post is attached to chassis as it was from the factory, the coil's pos post should be connected to the distributor.
