Well, hi again. I need everyones advice. I have the feeling I know the answer, but I'm not sure.

I have a 1948 Ford 8N that has a rare-ish Sherman transmission in it, but needs an engine rebuild and starter work. My dad estimates it's about worht 1400 as is, due to the transmission, which is twice what I gave for it.

Now, one of my dads friends has a 1948 John Deere B, running fine, with cultivators but needs paint. He wants 1100.

So what? So, I dont know what to do. A part of me wants to sell the 8N and buy the B...but I dont know. I intend to put in a 10 acre 'garden', but I need a running tractor to do this...I just cant get that sound out of my head, though...you know, the distinctive 'pop, pop' a JD makes under load. I dont know, I had kind of hoped typing this would help me decide what to do, but it didnt...

About the implement hook ups. The period intrigal implements that Deere used before the 3-point were easier to hook up than a 3-point. I use both and the Deere intrigal plow and disk , I only back into and insert two pins and off I go. I use a 3-point finish mower, that you have to get off the tractor , jiggle the mower around to match it to the 3-point. People say that the Ford 3-point can't be beat, I just don't see it. A 10 acre garden should leave a B with alot of turn room even with towed implements.

Well I have nothing but JD'S but seems like it is hard to beat the Ford Hydraulic systems and matching plows, discs, etc for 7 to 10 acre farms. My only complaint is the brakes on the 8N's which are sure not on par with the JD B. The cultivator on the B is hard to beat for row crop tillage. Russ
