I recently bought a 4030 and the 3-point don't work as I think it should. The lever must be completely back for the 3-point to raise. And when you move lever forward even slightly, the 3-point goes all the way down. I checked the operator's manual but there is no adustment referenced accept for the draft control and that seems to make no difference. Is there another adjustment that will help, or is there a problem with the tractor?

Richard, What I would suspect being your draft control lever does not change the control of the raise lever, that your load control arm finger is not in the correct position in the rockshaft control valve. This finger senses the position of the rockshaft from a cam lobe that that is attached to the rockshaft shaft. The finger may have become misplaced during a load shaft seal service or someone has had the valve off and didn't get it placed back in the correct position. To make a long story short the rockshaft control valve needs to be removed to check that this control arm finger is in the correct position. The finger is on the end of the load control arm which senses the draft from the load control shaft. This may sound a bit Greek but is common knowledge to a average John Deere technician. If you need more information or want to know how and where to remove the control valve just post back. Good Luck Dave W.

I am having the same problem with my 4030 lift. Can you give details on where and how to correct the problem, or is it to big a job for a shade tree mechanic!

Check the position of the L&D sensing lever on the lower area of the RH side console. If this lever is in upper position (I think) the hitch will be either way up or way down with no position control. The console is marked min/max by this lever. Unless your plowing or doing tillage work with a mounted implement you want this lever down.

If you can't get response by moving draft control, you may have to try adjusting load control arm through access hole to the right of toplink base in rear housing.
Also check the control valve setting and check for play in linkage between control valve and 3pt. lever.
If somebody has had the rock shaft housing off and messed up the top of the load control arm or gotten it out of place you may have the same problem.

it probably just needs adjusted if you have a IT manual you can do it yourself or your local deere dealer can do it takes about 10 min
