Hi all. I'm considering the purchase of a 1948 'B'. The machine runs, and comes with cultivators. It needs paint. I've yet to see it myself, but my dads friend told him to tell me about it. I hve this thing about big, narrow front tractors...Anyway. Horsepower wise and pulling wise, what Farmall would the B be similar to? I've hear some could only work as much as a C, and some as much or more than a Super M. What would a fair price be for a B that ran, with cultivators, but needed various cosmetic things?

Thanks,

68 Mag

Bs on auction in the condition you describe run between 1000 and 1500 again depending on condition and whos at the auction. Cultivators generally sell separately from the tractor and many times have trouble getting a bid, but that may be slowly changing as guys are looking for implements to add to the tractor.

It's in the same class with the H and Super H. Good tractor.

In my opinion the newer Model B's would be in the same class as the H Farmall and SC Case, they have similar horspower and were rated for 2-14 plows. Price wise, it depends on condition, the last one I bought I paid 600.00 for, it was pretty rough but ran. Tires are a big deal, you can spend 500.00 if all tires need replacing. Russ

Thanks. Does the B have live PTO and hydraulics? Is the Power Trol standard? What about lights?

B's never had live PTO. They could be made to have live hydraulics with some add on parts where a pump was attached to the governor shaft and distributor. Wasn't a factory option. Power trol was getting to be pretty popular by then but I imagine there might be some tractors that didn't have it by special request. Lights would have been pretty standard by then too. They are a fun kind of toy. Putting the cultivators on and off will take a little time but are a neat piece in a parade. You just can't use the tractor for anything else much with the cultivators all on.

The quicktach cultivators can be put on in about 10 minutes.

Generally a 48 would have power trol, lights were standard, No live pto or hydraulics, but will run a cylinder, 1.5 mph creeper gear and 10x38 rear tires, 11/38 were optional. 25 hp on the drawbar and 28 on the belt. A good tractor to cultivate with. Russ
