JDNut:

Using my highly accurate tape measure, I get 13 1/4" centerline of rod to centerline of pin bore.

That's 16 1/4 overall, less half of the rod (3.75) less half of the pin (2.350).

Let me know if you need anything else, as my 70D rods are on my workbench right now.

Frank.. Thanks for the info.. that's what I needed to know.. Just trying to get some ideas for a different tractor... But now I have question about your pistons... What do the tops of the pistons look like.. I have a 70D standard.. Are the tops just dished out.. or does it have a cup shape in the top.. with a center that comes up to a point??? Just curious.. Thanks

JDNut:

This is your lucky day !

Here's one of my brand new .045" oversized pistons just received from Albert at Renaissance Tractor.

The top, if you can make it out comes to a soft cone in the center, just like the originals.

Thanks Frank.. I knew the new pistons would.. but wasn't sure what the stock piston were like.. thanks for the info... The pistons look good.. Too bad you cann't see them when you are finished... Make sure you have someone do a good job on the fuel system... If I ever get into my 70D, I'll put 730 pistons with 730 injector tips in.. they have a different pattern than the 70's.. Thanks again..

JDNut:

I finally went out and checked out my old pistons, and you're right. They're not as domed as the new ones. Albert answered my e-mail and said that my new ones are 720/730 design.

I asked about gaining the extra 730 hp and he said I would have to go to 13mm pumps as well as the tip change.

Now I learned something new today !

Thanks again for the info... I would check into injector tips.. we changed the tips on an R to the 730 tips.. the 730 tips had more holes than the R tips.. I am guess they will have more holes than the 70 tips too.. (I have had mine out, but I have forgotten the number of holes.) I do not know what you are planning for the tractor.. nice thing about the diesel is you can have great power and still have economy... We changed an R to the 730 pistons and injectors.. It is a power gain.. (But we needed to change the cam too.) Let me know how the 70D turns out.. JDGnut
