I went to some JD schools on the 4230 and 4430. My understanding from the the service techs was taht they turbo tractors had a beefier crank shaft than the no turbo ones, due to compression and all. I know lots of folks put turbos on 4020s and even 4010s, don't know about gaining 25 hp, probably would gain some but would still not have the higher compression of teh 4430. I don't think the 4430 engine with turbo would fit under the hood because the turbo is on top. JD normally over engineered their transmissions and rear ends to put up with more stress than the engine would put out so you might be ok there. In the long run might be easier to just buy a 4430 and trade off the 4230 then you would get the extra hp and the rest to go with it.

I think you should go back to the service techs and straighten them out.jd only used two crankshafts in the 404 and 466 engines, whether they were or weren't turboed.the differance being how the oil pump was ,is driven

Forgot to mention that you'd also have to turn up the injector pump with the turbo. When I worked for deere many of the 4020s in good shape put out 110 hp anyway.

It has been brought to my attention that the compression ratio is not the same for the naturally aspirated as for the turbocharged. Most people buy a combine with the entire engine (correct compression ratio and turbo) and save a lot of money, converting that way. You would then have a 4430 if you can fit it under the hood. That would take some further modification to the hood, I think. Mufler, air cleaner parts and maybe other things will dissagree. Good luck!

of course the comp.ratio is higher on a turboed engine, thats where they get the extra power.anyway, the 4230 uses a roosamaster pump like the 4020 does.the 4230 and 4430 uses the same rods and crank, therefore the pistons are what is different.the pistons are of the same type as used in the 4020.I suggest you get a turbo kit from m&w for a 4020 and put it on
