I have a 720 gas that won't start unless you pull it. I have a new battery that has 650 cca. I friend of mine told me that the carborator may need boiling out because we could not get it to idle right. The setteling bowl had trash in it that looked like cotton seed grindings. I just bought the tractor so I don't know what it was used for. It runs good when it is running and seems to have plenty of power. I grew up with Farmalls and know how to work on them. But this John Deere has got me stumped. I hope someone has an opinion that will help.

My A had a similar problem, and it turned out that the battery it had in it was too small. I bought a bigger battery, and it fires up no problem now.

rooster,

Does the tractor turn over when you try to start it? Because when you pull it the motor turns over faster depending on what gaer you use. Hows the compression? Does it get gas in the cylenders. If theres no gas in the cylenders that means that you have a clog in the carb. My tractor had the same problem. It would take a ton of cranking to start and it ended up being a carb problem.

The tractor turn over good for at first then it`s run the battery down berfore it starts. It will slide the wheels in 6th/gear,so I think the tractor has good compresson. The plugs are wet when you try to start it off the starter . But you can pull it about 4 or5 feet and it will start.
