I never met him, but he really went out of his way to help me find a part once. That says a lot about the stock of family that raised him. My condolances goes out to the family.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL Barney Barfield

I went by his place in '99 and missed him and also missed him at the expo in 2000. I did share a few e-mails with him. Wish we could have met in person. Good man! He will be missed. HMan

May I say that Shorty was, So Good and Great a Man. He and I have visited together, swaped parts, traded tractors, taken our wifes out to eat, and seems we lived on ICQ talking to each other every night for the past 3 years. Shorty lived 401 miles from me and I would go and visit every chance I got. It was a Great Shock to turn on the computer and see the story of his passing. He will be missed by me. I looked up to Shorty as my second father, and Odie his wife was my second mother. I know that his family will miss him, as well as his family on YTMag. He always had good to say about each and everyone here on the Deere Board. I never heard him say anything bad about anyone.
I talked to both of his daughters and they told me that he told Mrs. Odie that he had cold chills and he would lay down for a few min. She could not wake him when she went to check on him.

I cannot add anything to what has been said - I can only echo and agree with it.

God bless Shorty and his family.

For those who have rebuilt or restored a tractor; those who have gone on those crazy, cold, wet, hot, journeys to bring home that old iron; or called all over God's green earth looking for that last part. We have all came across the "Shorty Dears" of the world. Folks who represent the good people that have made this country one of the best places on earth. Shorty represented the type of person to offer a kind word of reassurance. He and I only talked once on the phone but in that hour long conversation, he painted a picture of a kind honest man with is words of honesty.

He will be missed.

I met Shorty at a tractor show south of Dallas Texas three years ago and again at the Expo in Waterloo. What a wonderful and enjoyable person he was to be around. Shorty was one of the most honest people I ever met and I'm sure he is in a much better place. Our prayers are with his family. God bless you.

I never knew Shorty; missed meeting him by minutes at Expo XI. His comments, here on the board and his helpful e-mails will be sorely missed.

He always stood out in my mind because, there was NEVER anything but the highest praise for his honesty and integrity. It was always a conspicuous truth that youd be treated fairly by Shorty. What finer legacy than to be thought of in such a way by ones peers.

Like everyone else I also talked and dealt with Shorty Dear. I found him to be honest and helpful. I don't know if his family would see this so I thought I would post an address for anyone who may wish to send a note to his family.

Shorty Dear will be missed as one of the good people in the tractor restoration world.

I never had the pleasure of his company,
but I feel an emptiness
His thoughts, his words, his deeds remain
a tribute of his thoughtfulness.
We must go on to face the day,
and bare the news we hear
All our thoughts and prayers go out,
to the family of Shorty Dear.

May God be with you. poorerbut

To the family of Shorty dear, I was so sad to wake up and read this message. Although I never met him personally, I enjoyed numerous calls, e mails and corespondence with him, all of which were a joy and pleasure. A couple quotes whuch may comfort you in your sorrow from the bible and literature: "Though weeping may endure throughout the night, joy cometh in the morning" "What thought the radiance which was once so bright, be now forever taken from my sight, though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass of glory in the flower, we will grieve not, rather find strength in what remans behind" May God Bless his soul and bring comfort to his family.
